Nestled in the serene backdrop of Ribeira da Janela, Bar do Negrinho is more than just a local cafe; it’s a hidden gem that invites you to take a delightful culinary pause on your journey through the picturesque landscapes of Portugal. This charming spot, located at ER209, Caminho dos Casais de Baixo, 9270-102, is renowned for its warm ambiance, friendly service, and flavorful offerings that truly capture the essence of local dining.

The menu may not be extensive, but its simplicity is part of its charm. Patrons rave about the Prego, a succulent steak sandwich that exceeds expectations, especially for those looking for a hearty, satisfying meal. Eduardo Ottoni mentions the spices used in the food, which add a burst of flavor that many might find reminiscent of home-cooked meals.

In addition to the Prego, visitors are treated to incredible barbecue chicken and ham and cheese sandwiches that are both hearty and fulfilling. The pastel de nata served here is not just dessert, but an experience in itself—flaky pastry filled with creamy custard that melts in your mouth, perfectly paired with a rich cup of coffee, making it an essential stop for any sweet-toothed traveler.

But it’s not just the food that sets Bar do Negrinho apart; it’s the atmosphere. Imagine yourself sipping your coffee while surrounded by friendly locals, some of whom might be engaged in a lively game of cards—this is precisely the scene that Jason St. Clair encountered on a memorable Christmas Eve. The and open layout, accentuated by stunning views, makes it a perfect refuge for weary travelers and a cozy place to unwind.

Reviews highlight the cafe's down-to-earth nature, with Monika Vaitiekėnaitė noting the dedication of staff members who prepare food while prioritizing cleanliness, using gloves to ensure the highest hygiene standards. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic sandwich, a delectable pastry, or a refreshing beverage, Bar do Negrinho makes the ordinary extraordinary.

In a world where dining can sometimes feel too polished or impersonal, Bar do Negrinho is a return to simplicity, where every bite feels genuine and heartwarming. With its abundance of local flavor, friendly service, and stunning views, it’s a commendable stop for anyone traversing the beautiful landscape of Ribeira da Janela. Don’t miss out on this delightful café, and make it a point to visit on your next adventure through the area.

Great food, spices, clean and good brand for ketchup and mayo, the view is amazing and it deserves a stop in the way to the forest

Simple local cafe/mini market. We got great ham and cheese sandwiches, coffee and dessert. Nothing fancy, but guy wore gloves making it and it tasted amazing. Perfect place for a quick stop

We were driving through the area and just happened to see this little bar that was open on Christmas Eve. There were a couple of older men playing cards, so we immediately had the impression that this was a great place where locals visit. We walked in to find some snacks to take away, but ended up finding a menu to order from. We ordered a Prego (steak sandwich) and were very surprised! The steak was served in a typical bolo da caco, but with shredded carrots and potato sticks! It was fantastic and probably the best Prego we had during our visit to Madeira so far! Please stop by Bar do Negrinho and support this family!

Great local family cafe. Barbecue chicken was great, ham and cheese pesto great, fish was slightly salty but I think that’s how it is with the salted fish used locally, that said , all eaten. Friendly and efficient and has a small shop as well. Worth popping in

Based on the good reviews, I wanted to try a Prego no Bolo lo caco. However, I was there at 16:00 and then they could only serve sandwiches. Also, the terrace was not open probably because they were renovating. Espresso was good (€.1-)

We are hiking from Caniçal to porto moniz and we stopped here on our final day to rest and eat. The sandwich with ham and cheese is so delicious that I can't even describe it. We also ate grilled chicken and steak..delicious. really recommend
